Last week we were asked by a beautiful couple in their 90’s if we would go to look at some of their furniture as they were having to move from their precious home in the country, down twisty twiney lanes on a road with so much grass in the middle you couldn’t believe a house would be there, to a cottage in a village so family members and carers could access easier in bad weather.
Their home was a throw back to the 1950’s, all the original items…so quaint. The views from the windows were out of this world, I should have taken pics but felt it wasn’t respectful on this occasion.
We looked at a few pieces the couple had clearly had for many years and held so many dear memories for them. It was heartbreaking, how can you possibly put a price on someone’s memories.
We talked them into keeping their fondest items and we would purchase three items that were very worn and too much for them to restore. We gave the couple a very good price ( will never ever be rich!!) My compassion reigns on from being a nurse in my earlier years I’m pleased to say and long may it last.
I wanted to show you the first piece I have completed, just needs a slight distress and a wax tomorrow.
This is the old telephone table, it was badly scratched and worn. It now has 3 coats of Americana decor chalky finish paint in ‘vintage’.
I hope you agree she’s beautiful now sitting there waiting for her final steps tomorrow.
Why not try a bit of upcycling yourself??
Lots of love from Sharon xxx
